The technical editor and writer is an integral member of the Systems Engineering Support Program (SESP) Product Acquisition and Deployment (PADD) team. Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials. Specifically responsible for editing a combination of systems engineering artifacts, product support life-cycle management documents as well as assisting in the development of policy that supports the aforementioned artifact processes and documents. The technical editor is responsible for the quality control management, implementation, and framework required to achieve the desired metric outcomes for artifact and document development in program and project planning, product acquisition, bids and during the execution phase.
Technical Editor Duties:
Support editing quality control requirements development for DHS acquisition programs.
Performs a variety of technical editing and policy writing tasks, either independently or under supervision, which are broad in nature and are concerned with the design and implementation including personnel, hardware, software and support facilities and equipment to support a quality, timely, and lucid product for the development and/or acquisition, and/or operational and technical operational modeling.
Bachelor\u2019s degree and 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in a technical writting capacity.
Active DoD clearance (Secret or higher) and ability to obtain a DHS Suitability.
Ability to work in a team environment and communicate well with the customer.
Must be able to perform independent and directed research projects leading to a white paper with supporting charts and graphs.
Prepare and present reports and presentations for staff, customer meetings, and as requested.
Proficient in the use of Editor tools, MS Office Suite, and Adobe Acrobat.
