GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Great Books Foundation is seeking a qualified and highly motivated Senior Production Editor. This person oversees oversees and coordinates all production and some editorial services: permissions, reprints, design, art, copyediting, proofreading, and print and digital production for all GBF content (digital and print publications, as well as website and online materials, services, and experiences). The Senior Production Editor works with external vendors, freelances, and staff from all functional areas and at all levels to meet their production and editorial needs. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Obtains and manages permissions and licenses for content use Monitors inventory and manages corrections and reprints of low stock Maintains master production schedule and monitors project deadlines Creates, maintains, and monitors production budget; monitors individual project budgets Briefs and manages freelance designers and artists working on page layouts, covers, illustrations, and digital media Briefs and manages freelance copyeditors and proofreaders Maintains GBF house style and project style documents Manages other freelances and interns and works with external vendors Oversees content conversion from print to digital, and manages publication of materials in GBF’s digital platform Obtains print quotes and manages printing process, with various printers, through warehouse delivery Assesses competition, trends, opportunities, and innovations that relate to production and editorial services Functions as project manager, particularly for larger, more complex projects Contributes to work in production and editorial areas for all GBF materials, including ebooks, print pieces, and digital platform Makes recommendations for additional resources; hires and oversees training for new staff and interns Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: A. required, and master’s level publishing qualification preferred, plus at least 7-10 years of applicable experience Demonstrated skills, ability, knowledge, and experience to fulfill duties/responsibilities Demonstrated proactive leadership, management, supervision, and organization skills; ability to effectively communicate and present ideas in a clear, concise manner Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills: pronounced ability to collaborate, communicate, and work in a team environment, resolve conflict in an appropriate manner, and deal tactfully with differences of opinion Punctual, conscientious, and possessing a high attention to detail Experienced in creating, monitoring, and analyzing budgets and expenses Demonstrates a high degree of adaptability; comfortable in establishing new directions, managing rapid change, and trying innovative approaches High level of personal integrity, with the Foundation’s reputation always in mind Strong commitment to the Foundation’s mission, with a thorough understanding of the principles and practice of the Shared Inquiry method of inquiry-based discussion Interested applicants should submit both a cover letter and resume to firstname.lastname@example.org.
