What part will you play?
The CNN Master Control SWAT Operators are the leaders of the department acting as a front line for equipment failure, media management, and training for the department as a whole.
MC SWAT supports the management team through involvement in projects and acting as representatives of the department in planning meetings.
We are the first group in when it comes to developing, testing and documenting processes, workflow and Standard Operating Procedures.
We are a self-directed team, making our own schedules week by week in order to cover PTO and UTO across all networks.
We also create and update Master Control manuals, written procedures, special presentations, videos and run the CNN Master Control School.
We assist the Supervisor in evaluating/implementing new technology as well as tracking existing issues across all equipment and software platforms.
What will you be doing?
The team fully owns the management of all incoming program content.
This includes setting up and maintaining automation playlists, the ingest and purge lists for the various networks and coordinating both live as well as taped programming with MCOs, other departments, and Editorial to keep the CNN brand at the highest level.
As with the Master Control Operator position our primary responsibilities are the same when covering shifts.
Playout of all live news programs, breaking news, live events and original programming while ensuring the highest broadcast quality standards are met.
However, there's another level of expectation for a SWAT operator: We must also stand as an example to our peers concerning proper SOP execution, partnership with clients, disaster recovery and decisive action.
Depending on specific needs, we could be responsible for 1-3 networks at one time, communicating with multiple control rooms around the world.
Our duties include confirming & editing the programming play list to accommodate editorial changes in program scheduling, show timing, sponsorships and breaking news-often under real-time pressure and time restrictions.
In addition, we document changes in commercials for sales invoicing and sales operations.
Our responsibilities also include recording of shows for replay, quality control approval for all replay content with an eye on presentation quality and communication back to our partners to resolve issues before they make it to air.
SWAT MCOs not only embrace change but commonly lead the charge for the entire department, mastering new equipment and training our peers to ensure the best possible performance.
What do we need from you?
Minimum experience required includes:
3-5 years in a Master Control environment and/or consistent & above average performance at MC 1 level within CNN Nets.
Proficient with modern automation and broadcast equipment.
Demonstrated leadership skills, writing skills and communication skills.
Motivated problem solving skills and fluent in windows based applications.
Desirable experience (not mandatory) includes:
A demonstrated high-level of performance across multiple platforms in the CNN Newsgroup, past experience in a project team and/or team leader, other broadcast production experience including electronic graphics operation, audio, TD-ing etc.
Editing experience, digital/web design background and a fluency in Spanish are also highly desirable.
Educational requirements include a college degree or demonstrated experience in the field.
Most applicants have Master's or Bachelor degrees in Journalism or communications. (Other degrees are considered).
But wait, there’s more!
