Avalara is looking for Director of Content Strategy to own marketing content strategy and production. In this role, you will lead a team of talented content creators and editors responsible for crafting content that drives the customer lifecycle from awareness to loyalty.
The Director of Content Strategy will map highly relevant content to targeted personas at the ideal stage within the customer journey. You will manage a team of in-house and contract project managers and content creators and collaborate with product, demand generation, web, and other marketing teams to bring campaigns to market. You will develop and optimize processes to ensure content is produced on time, on brand, and on budget. You will gather and apply data-driven insights, prioritize projects according to business need, and report on results.
This is a senior-level hands-on position that is perfect for a skilled, experienced content marketer who has strong editorial vision, a keen understanding of what makes B2B content drive results, and a successful track record of managing teams.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Create and manage content strategy including development of a framework for prioritizing content projects, editorial calendar, mapping content to persona and buyer’s journey stage, and metrics and reporting.
Supervise writers, editors, and other content developers (employees and contractors)
Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to understand content needs, opportunities to improve existing content, and prioritize the editorial calendar.
Optimize and manage a clear process for content creation, including: developing a pipeline of prioritized content, formalizing a publishing workflow, and ensuring digital content is stored, managed, and tagged appropriately.
Ensure all content is on-brand, consistent in style, quality, and tone, and optimized for search and user experience for all channels, including web, social media, email, mobile, video, print, and in-person.
Regularly audit and measure the effectiveness of message and content against internal goals, competitors, and best-in-class peers to prioritize, retire, create, and/or reformat content.
Ensure consistent global experience and collaborate with global marketing teams on localization/translation strategies.
5 to 10 years plus of related experience in content marketing, demand generation, marketing communications or product marketing
Experience in a business-to-business (B2B) environment with high-tech products and/or services
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or relevant field of study
Demonstrated ability to craft compelling customer-centric content
Working knowledge of website content management systems as well as CRM systems (i.e. Salesforce.com)
Strong understanding of the buyers journey and content blueprint strategies
Experience in managing agencies and vendor relations
Writing skills appropriate for demand generation, including campaign briefs, web and email copy, social, and newsletter
Advanced degree (MBA, MA in Journalism, Communications)
