Media marketing is relatively a new advancement in the field of marketing. A relatively new method used for marketing is the introduction of media which include approaching customers through newspapers, TV, Radio, etc. and even the most recent internet. The use of internet involves methods like product reviews, blogs, message boards etc. In order to fulfill the desire to reach ever new and large population bases companies are using new available technologies in the media industry. This has increased the number of job opportunities for media marketing people. It requires the candidates to have a fair knowledge and experience about the new media marketing methods. Job Responsibilities

Media marketing officers are responsible for all promotional activities and giving timely responses to customer email inquiries. They are responsible for developing and implementing media campaigns so as to enhance the customer base. They are also required to research on the latest competitors' activities and should come up with good suggestions for the bosses. They must keep all the media communications used by the company for marketing purposes up-to-date. Keep records and generate reports about all the activities performed by the media marketing department. Media marketing officers are also responsible for performing all the media related activities which includes keeping updated information on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace or any other social media places the company is using to advertise themselves.



The major responsibilities of media marketers include:
  • Meeting different people including potential clients as well as sponsors, presenting the product profile to the clients, convincing and negotiating about price as well as other related issues
  • Drafting and implementing media marketing plan; he should be familiar with traditional and alternative media options
  • Writing product reviews, blogs, media messages etc
  • Preparing press releases, short reports, and question and answer briefs.
  • Dealing with routine media inquiries and preparing satisfying answers.
  • Preparing presentations for clients as well as for sponsors

Requirements

Academic and Training

The basic academic requirement to be a media marketing officer is a degree in marketing, media studies, communication or public relations or even some organizations requires an economics, or arts degree depending upon the nature of the work. Further some may also require a BBA marketing degree or higher. As this field involves a lot of communication therefore it requires solid background in the same field. A minimum of 5 years of experience is a must. Some media marketing jobs even require more experience like 10 to 15 years depending upon the job responsibilities.

Moreover, the person pursuing a career in this field must have sound writing and spoken skills with relevant experience in journalism, and media writing etc. He must be very confident, motivated and hard working. He must have excellent command on Excel, Power-point, Word and other computer basics. Candidates must be honest, trustworthy, a team player and dedicated to his job.

Skill Set

He must be a team player. Moreover, mostly media marketers have to work under pressurized work environment thus they must be enough capable to handle such situations. Also most of the time they have to work more than the normal 8 working hours and have to travel to various zones (depending upon the nature of the work).

Moreover media marketers must have knowledge about all the mediums used to communicate with the customers. Also the knowledge about different cultures is important for media marketers as the customer base is now becoming very large and global thus the message must be in accordance with the other cultures as well. Therefore the media marketer must have the knowledge about local and global media industry as well as the targeted customer base.
