The process of carrying out these duties involves collaboration with other experts in the department. In filmmaking, a camera operator job requires the camera operator to collaborate with experts like film directors and directors of photography in the film production company. Others involved in the process of the shooting are the actors, who are to be filmed, and a camera crew, who will coordinate with the camera operator collectively to deliver good pictures in a timely manner.

A camera operator requires skills and high qualifications in subjects like cinematography. The camera operator also needs to have relevant skills in choreography and shots framing. This knowledge is integral in management and quality shooting when filming. The camera operator job also expects the operator to have skills and a strong background in photographic lenses and equipment like dollies and camera cranes. Operators should also have relevant skills. This includes understanding how to project and achieve dramatic scenes. This calls for the operators to have knowledge about the concepts of dramatic scenes and the fundamentals of film editing because they have a duty to communicate about film sets with the directors when time and budget allocations become strenuous.
