News Producer Jobs

A news producer is responsible for the day-to-day production of newscasts, working closely with the executive producer, director, and assignment desk on each newscast and its content. A news producer reviews reporter scripts, develops content for the website, and helps write morning newscasts. A news producer coordinates special projects with various station departments. A news producer makes newscasts that stand out from those of the competition. A news producer makes quick decisions and handles breaking news. A news producer is responsible for making beat-checks, locating archive tape, and running the teleprompter.

A news producer should have a college degree. A strong candidate should also have at least two years of daily news production and management experience. A news producer must be a strong writer. A good candidate should have excellent technical skills, strong copyediting skills, and strong computer skills. A news producer should have the ability to work well with others. A news producer must be dynamic, self-motivated, and a technically savvy news junkie. A news producer should have experience working and multitasking in a high-pressure news environment.
