Media Buyer Jobs

Media buyers work in advertising and media agencies negotiating, purchasing, and monitoring media space on behalf of their clients. A media buyer bears responsibility for reaching the highest possible number of people in the target audience at the lowest possible cost. A media buyer works on a range of client accounts at the same time, often juggling various projects and deadlines, identifying the target audience for a particular media campaign, and deciding how best to communicate to that audience. A media buyer keeps up to date with industry research figures, including distribution figures and audience figures. A media buyer monitors buying strategies and builds relationships with clients and media sales companies. A media buyer negotiates with media sales companies to obtain the best rates and most appropriate media spaces in online, broadcast, and print advertising. A media buyer books individual media spots, pages, posters, Internet banners, and broadcast advertisements.

A media buyer should have a bachelor’s degree and specialized training. A strong candidate will have previous experience in advertising or sales. A media buyer must be able to establish contact with clients and media sales workers and work under considerable pressure. Strong candidates will also have excellent commnication skills and knowledge of the market.
