Media Specialist Jobs

A media specialist advises teachers and administrators on the use of non-print media, such as movies, audiotapes, filmstrips, and slide presentations. A media specialist develops new audiovisual materials for their schools or for publishing firms, and helps teachers plan programs for their classes. A media specialist may consult with teachers about the projects. A media specialist also conducts workshops on the use of media in the classroom, explaining what equipment they have purchased and what is available from state and district offices. A media specialist may also work in school libraries. A media specialist develops policies about the use of media. A media specialist helps school superintendents make presentations of those policies to school boards. A media specialist also performs as an in charge of their districts' school libraries.
A media specialist should have a master's degree in educational media or in another field of education plus course work in media. A media specialist should have a certification and some experience. A media specialist should have ability to handle heavy projection equipment. A media specialist must be able to work for hours because of evening meetings and conferences.
