A proofreader plays a very important role in online or print media. A proofreader is a key person for almost all magazines, books, journals, etc. A proofreader checks and rechecks articles or reports to make sure that they are free of grammatical errors, typos, or spelling mistakes. A proofreader compiles proofreading reports. A proofreader also corrects grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, and factual inaccuracies. A proofreader organizes text into proper paragraphs and sentence formations. A proofreader provides suggestions that will aid in completing a publishable manuscript. A proofreader ensures adherence to client guidelines and formatting standards and takes ownership of project accuracy. A proofreader assists document specialists in the proofing process and helps in meeting deadlines.

A proofreader should have a bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or mass communication. A strong candidate should also have one or two years of experience in proofreading. A proofreader should have excellent written and spoken English skills and good communication skills in general. A strong candidate should have good knowledge of grammar and standard proofreading marks. A proofreader should have the ability to pay attention to details, note errors, correct errors, and edit documents with a high degree of accuracy.
