Reporter Jobs

A reporter researches and writes news stories for publication or broadcast, describing the background and details of events and arranging interviews with people who can provide information about a particular story. A reporter provides review copy and corrects errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines, evaluating notes taken about an event in order to isolate pertinent facts and details. A reporter determines a story’s emphasis, length, and format, and organizes the material accordingly. A reporter researches and analyzes background information related to stories in order to be able to provide complete and accurate information. A reporter gathers information about events through research, interviews, experience, and attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social, and other functions. A reporter is responsible for investigating breaking news developments such as disasters, crimes, and human interest stories. A reporter reports and edits stories as assigned by news management and producers.
A reporter must have a four-year degree in journalism or communications and one year of experience as a reporter. A strong candidate is able to work well with other people with divergent viewpoints. A reporter should have strong writing, editing, and presentation skills. A strong candidate must also be proficient in the English language and be able to work in high pressure situations in a deadline-oriented environment.
